With the support of Sigma Alpha Iota’s Impact Grant, the North Star New Music Festival took place October 24–25, featuring three guest artists and commissioned composer William Averitt. The festival opened with a performance by the award-winning Vinola Trio, including our own staff pianist Dr. Xiang. Internationally renowned clarinetist Jorge Montilla presented both a masterclass and concert, and interdisciplinary artist Cherie Sampson gave two performances of her one-woman show every.single.one, featuring music by Truman faculty member Dr. Gran.

The festival also highlighted performances by students, faculty, and campus ensemble Uncommon Practice. The closing concert premiered "Until Dawn" for SATB choir by William Averitt, performed by Truman’s Cantoria Choir. This year brought an exciting range of performances, and we are looking forward to planning next year’s festival!
