North Star Music Festival
The North Star Music Festival (previously New Horizons Music Festival)
is an event that showcases recently composed
music on the campus of Truman State University
each October. Additionally, the festival promotes
American music and composers, in accordance
with one of Sigma Alpha Iota's purposes. Guest
composers also present workshops for students
and faculty. In July of 2015, our chapter gave
a presentation at the Sigma Alpha Iota National
Convention over the North Star Music Festival.
Stay tuned to see what's in store for the
2024 North Star Music Festival

Musical Cure

Musical Cure is a music therapy program that was developed by a local medical school student in 2004. Since his graduation, Epsilon Pi’s Philanthropies Committee has taken the reins to coordinate monthly performances at local residential care facilities and hospitals. Volunteers not only from ΣΑΙ, but from all over the Truman campus are welcome to participate. Typically, in December, Epsilon Pi teams up the Upsilon Phi, the Phi Mu Alpha chapter on Truman's campus. The chapters combine to create a 4 part choir that goes caroling at several nursing homes on our reading day. Though we cannot safely continue these at the moment, we look forward to a future in which we can spread love through music once more.
ALS Fundraisers

ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a neurodegenerative disease that affects the spinal chord and brain. Some of our current and past members have known family members who have suffered from ALS, and this is close to our hearts. Once a year in the spring we hold a large fundraiser to raise awareness for ALS in honor and memory of those who have or have had ALS. Truman music students and ensembles volunteer to perform on the quad for several hours to raise awareness and money.
