"Sigma Alpha Iota is an organization which promotes interaction among those who share a commitment to music. Members of SAI are active in all areas of campus music and campus life, working closely with faculty, administration, campus and community groups, music professionals and patrons. In addition to personal encouragement and support, members may receive scholarships, loans and awards in many areas and at all levels of music-related study. Sigma Alpha Iota has long been recognized as a leader in the field of music and provides a lifetime of fraternity contact."
History
​Sigma Alpha Iota was founded on June 12, 1903, at the University School Of Music in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Our seven founders are pictured to the left. Since its beginnings, SAI has grown to include over 330 college and alumnae chapters all over the United States.
Sigma Alpha Iota National Objectives
1. Renew our commitment to the Purpose of SAI, striving for perfection.
2. Honor and respect the traditions of the SAI ritual.
3. Work in our chapters and communities to raise the standards of music in all its diverse expressions.
4. Advocate for music education, stressing its importance in our world.
5. Strengthen and nurture our lifelong connection to SAI members, inspiring each other through loving sisterhood and effective communication.
6. Speak enthusiastically about the many projects of our charitable arm, SAI Philanthropies, Inc., and support those projects with our donations.
7. Be a catalyst for the creation and performance of American music.
